Serrekunda West will take on Porcupines in the opening match of the Eighth Late Pa Modou Sarr Memorial Tournament today, 16 February 2012, at the Serrekunda West Basketball Court.
The group B clash will mark the official start of the highly competitive tournament that attracted teams from the greater Banjul area.
Wallidan are the defending champions after been crowned champions of the annual event last year. They are pitted in group A against Serrekunda East, Lamin and Bakau United.
Lamin, on the other hand, will take on Serrekuna East on Sunday as part of group A matches.
Sport House and YMCA, also members of Group B, will have their own share of the championship next Friday when they knock heads.
The basketball tournament is staged in the name of Late Pa Modou Sarr, who passed away in February 2004 in Texas, USA, in a car crash after a basketball game.
A Holy Quran recitation was held on 9 February 2012 at his family house in Kotu ahead of preparations for the tournament.
