The Serrekunda Central Red Cross link recently embarked on the second face of their activity called ‘Paint the Blackboard Black’ at the St Therese’s Upper Basic School in Kanifing.

The activity, which brought together members of the link, is aimed at painting the blackboard of the school black to make the teachers’ work easier for them.

According to Pa Modou Yaffa, the Serrekunda Central Red Cross Link is one of the best links and that many people had passed through the link and had made positive changes in their lives. He added that painting the blackboard will ease the teachers’ work, saying the link had achieved so many thingssuch as the training of members to be responsible in the future.

For his part, Modou Alieu Jallow revealed that the activity is an initiative of the link, which is one of the ways they can expose themselves as a link, saying education is nationwide but they think using the blackboard is the fastest way of educating, because if the board is black and the chalk is white it will encourage visibility thereby making the learning easier.

Habibu Jallow, the treasurer, stressed that the funding of the activity is done by the link members through their weekly contributions. He therefore appealed for assistance from the private sector, individuals, government and parastatals to come to their aid.

Mariama Tabally, the link secretary, said they want to inform the people to know that Red Cross is here for everyone.

Blacken the board will enhance the student’s visibility in class which will make the learning environment conducive and peaceful.

Alpha Bah, the link elder, also noted that painting the blackboard is very significant for them, the teachers and the students.
