Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the coordinator of SJFFC, Fr Sean Devereux, said the items were been part of a larger consignment of mainly bicycles for students, who havelong distances to travel to school, donated by the Rotary Club of Wexford in Ireland.
He highlighted Saint Joseph’s pleasure in supporting the hospital, adding that contributing toward the attainment of the health component of the MDGs calls for a holistic approach and participation from individuals, CBOs among others in complementing the government`s efforts.
In receiving the items, the administrative officer of the hospital, Ansumana Mendy, said the relationship between the two institutions is a fruitful one, adding that the items would go a long way in the dispensation of health services not only at the hospital, but to other health installations within their area.
Any contribution toward the attainment of the MDGs, and for people to have access to medical care could not be overemphasized, he went on, adding that health is the driving force for any socio-economic development efforts, and therefore no nation could develop without healthy people.
Mendy, on behalf of the management and board, hailed the efforts of Saint Joseph’s and the Rotary Club of Wexford in Ireland for a “philanthropic gesture.”
