The Sports Journalists Association of The Gambia (SJAG) is gearing up for yet another friendly match against Zuwa FC, a Naweetan football team in Bakau, scheduled for tomorrow at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.
The rejuvenated SJAG football squad, who were recently held to a breathtaking 1-1 draw by the Sarahuleh Soninke Society group, are determined to win their first ever competitive match since their momentous 1-nil success over Mauritania selection in the last year’s Stakeholders Football Tournament.
The side played a convincing draw against the Sarahule Soninke selection at East Park a fortnight ago in a dramatic style and the country’s sports writers team under the guidance of caretaker coach Abdoulie Bah, is determined to collect its first win in as many matches as so far played.
The SJAG will be missing the service of instrumental gloves man Alasan Mballow, who has made a strings of marvellous saves to salvage the sports journalists from surrendering to defeat in the hands of the Sarahuleh and Soninke society group in the last test game despite conceding a cheap goal in the first half of that encounter much to the dismay of the coaching staff.
The Zuwa FC, on the other hand, will be hoping to fill in their strongest side as they have deepened preparatory efforts ahead of this year’s curtain-raiser or super cup final against last year’s double winners Ron Mango.
The match is part of the fundraising campaign for the upcoming sports journalists award programme due to take place at the Jerma Beach Hotel on 2 July 2011.
