The final, held at Kalagi Upper and Senior Secondary School conference in Kalagi village, showed Wassadou Lower Basic School crowned as the runner-up.
The winner and runner-up were presented with educational and gardening materials as prizes while the rest of the participating schools were compensated with book and stationeries worth D150,000.
The participating schools were Wassadou Lower Basic School, Bulenghat Lower Basic School, Mayork Lower Basic School, Kampassa Lower Basic School, Bambara Lower Basic School, Sintet Lower Basic School, Bondali Lower Basic School, and Kalagi Lower Basic School, the host school.
Teteh W. Sambou, programme development officer of Eastern Foni Federation, said they partner with the Ministry of Basic Education to stage the quiz competition as a way of supporting children to achieve quality education.
He said: “We believed that children are the future so helping to enhance and facilitate their education is a great thing for us and that is why we came up with this idea of organising a quiz competition for the schools.”
Mr Sambou said ChildFund and Eastern Foni Federation have great plans for the education of school children and one of them is staging a quiz competition on issues related to the children’s course work.
Quiz competition helps children to build their vocabulary skills, become self-confident and good public speakers in their various schools.
Sambou said the federation will do its best to ensure that every child has access to quality and uninterrupted education.
For his part, Momodou Manjang, a cluster monitor for Bondali cluster speaking on behalf of the education regional director (region 2), hailed Eastern Foni Federation saying they are indeed worthy partners who should be emulated.
He said the federation’s school activities are in line with the national education policy as they promote and support access to relevant and quality education for children.
Karamo Sanneh, principal of Upper and Senior Secondary School, commended Eastern Foni Federation and ChildFund for coming up with such a laudable initiative geared towards promoting and building self- confidence in public speaking and improve academic performance.
