The President of the Supreme Islamic Council (SIC), Muhammed Lamin Touray, who also doubles as the Deputy Imam of Gunjur, has challenged parents to train their children for them to adopt good attitudes in the society, and also regularly perform the five daily prayers.
Imam Touray, who was speaking to thousands of people who gathered at Gunjur’s Eid prayer grounds Tuesday for the Tobaski prayer, stated that "it is only by disciplining" their children that parents can reap their benefits.
According to him, children should take advice from their parents, the way Prophet Ismail took the advice of his father Prophet Ibrahim.
This, he added, would enable them to attain their dreams and aspirations.
"If you fail to take advice from your parents or fail to listen to them, it will be very difficult for you (the children) to succeed in life," Touray told the gathering.
He also called on the parents to adopt prophet Ibrahim’s behaviour so that their children could emulate from them.
"If parents fail to train their children, they will be questioned by the Almighty Allah on the Day of Judgment," he stated.
He further revealed that during the course of the Tobaski and even beyond, Muslims should concentrate on prayers and seek Allah's blessing and forgiveness, and be thankful to Him for giving them the opportunity to witness yet another Tobaski feast. He prayed for unity, understanding, progress and peace to prevail in the Gambia and the world at large.
