A narcotics officer, Ebrima Jawara, Wednesday testified in the trial of one Ibrahima Mane, a Senegalese national, accused of drug trafficking at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Nyima Samateh.

In his testimony, officer Jawara told the court that he recognised the accused person, and that on 27 September 2014 he was on duty at a checkpoint in Essau when a passenger vehicle arrived coming from Barra to Amdalai.

He asked the passengers to produce their ID cards, and everybody produced their ID, except the accused person.

He saw a bucket in the vehicle carrier, which he asked the apprentice to bring down, adding that they escorted the accused person and two other men for a search.

They also found a blue travel bag in the vehicle, which they took together with the bucket to the station, he said.

At the station, he added, the NCA officer Yusupha Manneh told them that the said bag belonged to one Ebrima Manneh, adding that they alerted the Amdalai Police Station to stop the vehicle.

The case was adjourned to 26 November 2014.
