Senegal Wins Senegalo/Gambia Draughts Tournament

Senegal were crowned champions of the 2009 Senegalo/Gambia draughts tournament organized by The Gambia National Draughts Federation on Sunday at the Atlantic Hotel in Banjul.

Senegal scored 18 points while The Gambia picked 4. Participants at the end of the tournament received, trophy and certificates.

Speaking at the ceremony, the deputy permanent secretary of the Department of State for Youths and Sports, Abdoulie Kah, said The Gambia and Senegal are the same people adding that sports always brings unity and understanding among people.

Sukuta Jawo of the Senegalese Draughts Federation said the aims and objectives of the tournament are to build up a strong relationship between the countries and commended The Gambia National Draught Federation for their tremendous contribution in the improvement of the game in the country.

According to Mrs. Jawo, the Senegal Draughts Federations will assist The Gambia Draught Federation for the advancement of the game in the country.

Pa Omar Jagne, former Gambian veteran draught player said he started his career in 1966 and represented The Gambia from 1970/72 at international level.
