Semega Promotion makes history in wrestling

Another amazing gesture in the development and promotion of the country’s national and traditional game, wrestling, was initiated by one Semega Janneh, who held a wrestling competition last Saturday at the Serrekunda Mini Stadium.

The competition attracted a good number of spectators who were there to watch the interesting sport.

Six combats were taken by twelve wrestlers on the ground; competed on various kilograms.

In the first battle, Presie of Serrekunda pulled down Janneh of Sanchaba in 55 seconds.

Valdo of Serrekunda smacked off Boy Bambara in 1.06 minutes, followed by Blende of Banjul who slapped down John Senier in 45 seconds.

In the fourth battle, Fire of Wellingara got defeated by Boy Dollor of Bakau in 1.24 minutes.

In the fifth fight, Eumuer Saine of Bakau overpowered Eumuer Saine of Serrekunda in 1.19 minutes.

The grandest combat was a tussle between Malick of Talinding and Ernest Jatta of Latrikunda in sixty seconds, which brought an end to the competition.

Chief mobilizer of the Semega promotion, Abdoulie Gaye, said wrestling is a game which needs revitalization, adding that it is a traditional game which most youths pay heed to, and it inspires them to venturing into wrestling to push it further.

As far as the youth are in wrestling, they will also do everything to help in the sport, he said.
