The District and Regional Competition organised by the Governors’ Office and the Regional Sport Committee under the coordination of the National Sports Council has completed the selection of their wrestlers in some of the Districts.
North Bank Region has completed the selection of its wrestlers likewise Lower River Region.
Banjul City Council and Upper River Region have also completed, but KMC is yet to complete its selection. They however came out with a promise to work on the selection latest 4th of next month.
Speaking to this reporter, Abdul Aziz Titao Mendy yesterday told Pointsport that Western Region will hold its selection at Kanilai on 28 April, but CRR, which has organization problem, is yet to come up with a date of its selection and that the general public is hereby informed of the developments as they unfold.
He further urged non-registered associations to come over and fulfill their registrations before coming to the AGM, adding that all Governors should send their representatives in the wrestling competition and that they should register with the National Sports Council (NSC).
He further appealed to all clubs and associations that are interested in the competition to send their representatives, saying they should get registered before the date of the AGM.
He informed Pointsport that the wrestling association will have its annual congress on Saturday at the Independence Stadium Bakau and that all clubs and regional representatives are urged to attend the annual general meeting, because the constitution will be reviewed and adopted by their constituency for the congress.
The selection of the new executive will be held on 5 May 2012 who will run the association.
Titao Mendy added that the NSC and the Youth and Sport have embarked on revitalizing wrestling, which is the number one sport in The Gambia.
