A team composed of combined Security forces at Mandinaba Police Station were the champions of Mandinaba 2009 Nawettan season after beating California FC 2-1.
The 2009 Nawettan organised by the Mandinaba Youths and Sport Development Association (MYSDA), is sponsored by Gamcel and GPA.
Saturday's final which was played at Mandinaba village football field, witnessed a thrilling encountered between the two most famous teams in the village.
When the central referee blew the whistle for the start of the match both teams displayed their talents before their fans and in the 20th minute of the first half, it was Security forces Number 6 Buba Baldeh who scored his team's first goal. Their Number 15 Tijan Sarr registered the second goal in the 36th minute. Number 17 Wuyeh Drammeh scored
The six teams that took part in the senior Nawettan includes, Real Madrid, Security forces, California, Old hands, Scorpions and West Side. Lamin Ceesay from Gamcel Customer care took the kick-off. The chairman (MYSDA) Kawsu Sannoh thanked their main sponsors, Gamcel and GPA for sponsoring their 2009 Nawettan season promising them that the cash amount of money and materials given to the committee will be put into good use.
He said the Theme for the 2009 Nawettan was (Attitudinal Change) and the purpose of organising both junior and senior Nawettans was to fence their village football field so that they can host regional sports competitions in future. Both sponsors were awarded with certificate of appreciation by (MYSDA).
As champions, Security force bagged D2, 500.00 with a trophy. California FC as Runners-up received D2, 000.00. The most discipline team Old Hands went home with D500.00
In the junior category, Spider Zone was crowned champions after beating Young Stars 3-0. They walked away with a giant trophy and cash prize of D400.00 and the runner up Young Stars collected D300.00.
