Feb 5, 2010, 8:17 PM

The Chairman of the organising committee of The Gambia's only representative in the forthcoming CAF African champions league, Brigadier-General Saikou Seckan has called on the entire sporting fraternity to rally behind the Gambia Armed Forces in their effort to a  secure  a second stage spot in the champions league.

Seckan who was speaking to Pointsport with optimism underscored the importance of the first-leg of the Champions league, given the fact that it will go a long way towards determining the team’s qualification to the next stage of the competition as they are looking set to host their Algerian counterparts Jeaunesse Sportive De Kabylie (JSK).

The team has since set up an organising committee, headed by Saikou Seckan, who are given the mandate to raise the needed funds for the game, slated to kick-off on Saturday 13th February 2010, at the Independence Stadium and the return-leg two weeks later in Algiers.

The Brigadier-General further stated that they are working very hard on the modalities ahead of the competition, as according to him, plans are already underway for the accommodation of the visiting team who are due in Banjul anytime from now.

"I am delighted with the progress the team is making in recent time which saw them collecting their first win in the league against Real De Banjul in a dramatic style and we expect a lot from them when the champions league starts," Seckan told this reporter.

Seckan is however optimistic that the Marketing Committee would be able to raise the required fund before the return leg, scheduled for the weekends of 26th, 27th, and 28th February in Algeria.

One man who is equally impressed with the performance of Armed Forces against Real De Banjul is no other person than Alagie Sey, who guided the Khaki boys to the league title with an impressive total of 44 points last season.

Coach Sey who went to the camp with the champions with 23 man-squad on Thursday, at the Paradise Suites Hotel ahead of the champions league clash hope and pray that Armed Forces will qualify to the second stage by beating Jeaunesse Sportive De Kabbylie of Algeria.
