In their quest to alleviate child poverty in Kombo Central, Saamasang Federation recently handed over a cheque for D70, 000 to Sanneh Kunda and Daruhairu clusters, at a ceremony held at the federation's office in Brikama.
The money is meant to help women initiate businesses of their choice in a bid to take care of their children's educational bills and needs.
Deputising for the federation's Manager, Programme Development Officer at Kabafita-Bafuloto, Mrs. Kejaw Jadama-Joof underscored the importance of the loan, noting that it would help communities to venture into businesses of their choice in order to meet some of the objectives of the federation in providing services for the well-being of children.
According to Mrs Jadama-Joof, this new approach will enable parents to take the lead in their own development initiatives. She further went on to say that her office is ready to bring more development to the doorsteps of the communities. She noted that when the project is successfully implemented it would enable other clusters to benefit from the project.
For his part, Saamasang Child Officer, Mr. Amadou Tambedou stressed the need for the successful implementation and sustainability of the pilot project. He noted that the communities selected were based on merit and commitment towards the welfare of their children. He urged the beneficiaries to pay the loan on time.
