Rice thief jailed

Magistrate Lamin George of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced one Mansour Jawara, to a mandatory jail term of three months upon his own plea of guilt to a charge of stealing.

The charge sheet revealed that on 22 December 2010, at Kanilai Group International (KGI) warehouse in the Kanifing Municipality, the convicted person, Mansour Jawara, stole half bag and half bucket of rice valued at one hundred and eighty dalasi, being the property of the Kanilai Group International.

In a separate development, one Foday Sillah was also convicted and sentenced to a mandatory jail term of two years for stealing a motor vehicle.

Magistrate Tabally of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court administered the sentence, following the convict’s own plea of guilt to the charge.

According to the charge sheet, on 12 December 2010, at Fajara, in the Kanifing Municipality, the convicted person, Foday Sillah, stole a motor vehicle with registration number BJL 2638, being the property of one Alhagie Sillah.
