Rescue GAMCOT

Nov 19, 2009, 2:49 PM

Local media reports have revealed that staff working for the only cotton company in the country, GAMCOT, have not been receiving salaries for sixteenth months now.

According to a report carried by Foroyaa Newspaper on Monday, this revelation was made by the staff of the company in an interview with their provincial reporter.
"GAMCOT is the only company in the whole world, which owes its staff sixteen months of salary arrears. This is unbelievable and must not be accepted in any way," one Momodou Saidykhan, a staff of the company was quoted saying.

According to some staff members, this situation had made life difficult for them, because they couldn't meet their essential needs.

This is a very serious matter and we urge the government to seriously look into the matter so as to remedy the situation.

What is the essence of working without being paid when one is not volunteering?

It is ridiculous to work thirteen good months without salaries or wages.

What is the management doing about the issue? You need to do something now rather than later.

Something is indeed wrong with GAMCOT.

The government should set up a Commission of Inquiry to look into the matter in order to address the problem as early as possible.

Days are gone when people work for nothing. Pay them now.

The government should help rescue not only the staff, but also the company to ensure that the country's only cotton company does not die.
