Red Star Family FC, Saturday
defeated Smateq FC 2-0 in a keenly-contested final, played at the Gunjur Upper
and Senior Secondary School football field to clinch the 2019-2020 Gunjur
Nawettan league title.
The match was not an easy
road to cross as both sides played defensive and offensive football, crafting
few goal scoring opportunities but the first half ended goalless.
Upon resumption of the match,
Red Star Family FC regrouped and pile heavy pressure on Smateq FC, creating
goal scoring chances.
Gunjur United prolific
striker Dawda Darboe alias Viper gave Red Star Family FC the lead in the 47th
minute of the match after capitalizing on Smateq’s defender Lamin Manjang alias
.B. Barrow’s blunder to fire home the opener.
Smateq responded for an
equalizer but couldn’t penetrate Red Star Family FC’s formidable defence line.
Midfielder Arafang Jobe alias
Barbell scored the second goal for Red Star Family FC in the dying minute of
the game to earn his side Gunjur Nawettan league title.
As champions, Red Star Family
FC were decorated with a giant trophy and cash prize of D25, 000 while Smateq
FC pocketed D20, 000 as the runners-up.
