The Point
has been reliably informed that the three national associations that instituted
a court action against the GNOC bureau over the controversial electoral process
have now withdrawn their case.
The
withdrawal of the case was demanded by the International Olympic Committee
(IOC) as one of the conditions for a new Extraordinary General Meeting that can
be held to determine the GNOC membership.
Contacted for comments, one of the trio, Sheriff Jammeh of Lawn Tennis, confirmed that they have withdrawn the court case because the GNOC has now taken the right cause of action by inviting all of them to the July 27 Extraordinary AGM without discriminations and also as part of the spirit of a comprehensive resolution to the impasse being pursued by the two ministers.
News of the withdrawal of the case and the GNOC’s decision to invite the rebellious associations have been welcome.
“Both sides are now moving towards a concrete resolution of this impasse,’’ one observer says.
