Feb 26, 2016, 11:00 AM

Real de Banjul FC has lost its protest against the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) who they claimed fielded in an ineligible player in their Sunday 21 February match played at the Banjul mini stadium.

Real De Banjul filed a protest to the GFF appeal and disciplinary committee that GPA fielded in Gregory Sambou, who they claimed was ineligible to face them after he had collected three yellow cards.

But the GFF has dismissed their appeal saying: “After a thorough scrutiny of all the relevant documents i.e. referee match reports and the GFF Newsletter Vol. 1 to 10, it was found that Gregory Sambou got yellow cards as thus:- 1) 13/12/15 GPA vs Gamtel, 2) 19/02/16 GAF vs GPA and 3) 10/01/16 Brikama Utd vs GPA respectively.”

“After receiving yellow cards as per the above, he did not play in their subsequent match against Bombada thus serving the suspension,” stated the GFF, who added that Gregory Sambou in line with the GFF Regulation was qualified to face Real De Banjul FC.

“In light of the above development, the protest did not stand,” the GFF statement concluded.

Meanwhile, Mr Malick Gassama (assistant coach) of Red Hawks was sent out of the technical area for misconduct during their game with Serekunda East Bi played at the KG5 mini stadium in Banjul and is therefore suspended for two straight matches. He would also not be allowed to sit on the bench, nor would he be allowed to enter into the dressing rooms and the technical area.

Player Demba Saine was sent off for violent conduct against Serrekunda East Bi and has also been handed a two-match suspension.

Team Head Coach Modou Bah was found to be using abusive language at a match official during their match against PSV Wellingara and has also been dealt with according by giving him a two-game suspension.

He would not be allowed to sit on the bench, enter into the dressing rooms and in the technical area.

Messrs Buba Jallow (head coach) and Momodou Bojang both officials of Brufut Utd were found to have conducted themselves in an improper manner by insulting the match official. The said officials are therefore suspended for two matches.

Furthermore, Brufut Utd FC fans were also found to be singing and using abusive language at the officials in their game against Blue Star, with the club strictly advised to warn their fans to desist from such behaviour or face full disciplinary action.

Sarjo Sanyang, an official (trainer) of Brikama United, was found to have used abusive language against match officials during the Steve Biko vs Brikama United game.

Mr Sanyang is accordingly suspended for two straight matches in succession, and will not be allowed to sit on the bench, enter into the dressing rooms and in the technical area.

In another development, GFF has announced that after the completion of a successful first round, clubs can make use of the window, which is now opened and will be closed on 9 March 2016.

All clubs are also informed that balloting for the FF Cup Knockout is scheduled for 27 February 2016 at the Independence Stadium.

The said programme will take place on the ground floor of the VIP area at half-time during Gamtel vs OCK.
