Real
De Banjul have maintained 100% record to win the 2016 Guédiawaye FC
invitational tournament.
The
Gambian premier league thrashed ASAC Concorde of Mauritania 3-0 in the final
game played on Sunday to clinch the trophy.
Goals from Baboucarr Camara alias Jah Boy and
a brace from striker Yankuba Jarju earned the City Boys the four-team
invitational tourney trophy without conceding a goal.
Real defeated Senegalese champions US Gorée
3-0 in the semi-final on Friday before facing off with Concorde at the
5000-capacity Stade Amadou Barry.
Striker Yankuba Jarju was voted Player of the
Tournament and Leading Goal Scorer with three goals in two outings.
Assistant
Coach Lamin Sillah, who has maintained a 100% record since leading the team on
its journeys, was elated after guiding the City Boys to victory by putting up
brilliant performances in both matches
Sillah said: “It’s the happiest day of my life
after guiding the team to victory here in Guédiawaye. I give thanks to God and
dedicate this victory to my players, my staff and my club executive.
“Credit
also goes to my players for always listening to me on and off the pitch and
doing what we tell them to do on the pitch. This is all geared towards the
upcoming league season in The Gambia and winning the trophy here sends a big signal
to other teams in The Gambia!”
On his leading goal scorer and player of the
tournament Yankuba Jarju, coach Sillah said: “I speak to him several times and
on Friday, he told me he’ll score [and he did]. Coming to the field on Sunday
again, he told me the same [and he did].
“If
only he continues working hard, he will be among the best strikers ever that
The Gambia has produced.”
The team has returned safely to Banjul and
resumed training on Wednesday morning in preparation for its 50-year anniversary
celebration from October 29 to November 6 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
