The Gambia National Olympic Committee has outlined the Queen's Baton route during its second visit in the country in December.
The baton which is set to arrive on Friday December 11th for a four-day visit has the approval of President Yahya Jammeh for its reception in The Gambia. It will be taken to the July 22nd Square on the same day for a welcome ceremony.
As part of its visit in Banjul, KMC and Western Region as in 2005, the baton is expected to travel along the streets of Banjul on December 12, such as Orange Street into Blank Street along the King George V Mini Stadium into Dobson Street to Anglesea Street and onto Hagan Streets.
The baton will stop at the Banjul City Council for one hour and then proceed via Mosque Road to New Perseverance Street, then Campama to Arch 22.
From the Arch, the Prison Department will carry it to Mile 2 and hand it over to the Mayor of Banjul, to be escorted to Denton Bridge. The escort will terminate at the Gambia Groundnut Council for the Mayor of Banjul to carry and hand it over to the Mayor of KMC at the Denton Bridge.
The Major of KMC and team escorted by cultural groups will carry the baton to the Total Petrol Station from where it would be escorted in a vehicle to Stink Corner.
The baton will have a break of one hour at KMC before proceeding via the Brikama High way, Churchills Town. Mosque Road, Serrekunda Market, Sayerr Jobe Street, Westfield on to Kairaba Avenue.
The baton which is equipped with a sensitive Camera capable of taking images and sounds for immediate broadcast through the Delhi 2010 website to every corner of the globe will also be taken round to the Kairaba Beach Hotel, Gambia Tourism Authority, back to Senegambia Junction.
It will also witness a fanfare by the India community and will be later escorted to the Indian consult.
