A resident of Tujereng village recently testified in the criminal trial involving one Essa Jassey charged with obtaining money by false pretence.

In his testimony before the Brikama Magistrates' Court, Masaneh Joof said he could remember what happened between March and April 2010.

Joof, who is the third prosecution witness in the case, said the complainant Lamin Joof and his son came to him and told him that one of his (Lamin's) friends in Tanji said he could help his son to travel to Europe.

The witness further told the court that he told Lamin that he had no money at the moment, but he could gave him a goat valued at D1,400 to give it to the accused.

PW3 further revealed that the complainant later came back and told him that the accused said he would give the goat to his boss to process the travelling documents.

According to him, he gave another goat valued at D1,800 to the complainant, but Lamin told him that the accused said the two goats could not process the documents and that he needed to add some money.

He said the complainant later took D3,500 from his step-mother and took it to the accused.

The accused later came to his compound and told him that his white friend was on his way to The Gambia, he told the court, saying that was the last time he saw him.

Hearing continues.
