The
Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) has temporary suspended licence
applications for broadcasting, petroleum among others effective 1st April, 2020
until further notice.
The
decision from the regulatory authority is geared towards enforcing President
Barrow’s State of Public Emergency declaration aimed at fighting the deadly
coronavirus pandemic, which has currently hit the world.
“Following
the declaration of a state of public emergency by H.E. the President in view of
the covid–19 global pandemic, The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA)
hereby informs the general public that applications for licences and permits
including testing of tanker trucks in the following regulated sectors are
suspended forthwith effect from 1st April, 2020 until further notice; the
Authority states in a news release.

“PURA
will continue to monitor the situation closely and will inform accordingly when
the suspension is lifted.”
