President Jammeh gives Christian community D1M

The President Yahya Jammeh yesterday donated D1 million to the Gambia Christian Council (GCC), at a presentation ceremony held at State House in Banjul.

The money was presented by the Vice President, according to a state radio broadcast.

It added that the gesture is a Christmas gift to the Christian community.

Vice President Isatou Njie-Saidy, in presenting the money to members of the GCC executive, said the donation is a tradition, as the Gambian leader has been donating to Christians annually.

She stressed that the President has directed that the money be shared among the various Christian denominations, GRTS radio further reported.

The Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Fatou Lamin Faye, in her remarks, recalled that the Muslims as well do benefit from such gestures from President Jammeh.

In receiving the donation, the chairperson of the Gambian Christian Council, the Most Rev Hanna Caroline Faal Heim, thanked President Jammeh for the donation, describing it as timely.

She assured the Gambian leader that the donation would be used to serve its purpose.

The Chief Justice of The Gambia, Justice Emmanuel Fagbenle, and personalities at the function praised the President for the donation.
