PIU officer testifies in assault case

Bakary Drammeh, a Police Intervention Officer attached to Kanifing Police Intervention Unit recently testified before Principal Magistrate Kayode of the Bundung Magistrates' Court in the trial of one Lt. Lamin Fatty.

Lt. Lamin Fatty is standing trial on a charge of assault, a charge he vehemently denied.

Testifying before the court, the second prosecution witness, Bakary Drammeh told the court that, on 27th July 2009, he was on duty at Senegambia junction when CPL 1007 Camara who was posted at the Palmarima junction called to inform him that he should not leave his duty post without an order from their commander.

According to him, he was later called to go and answer at the Tourism Security Unit where he went with Corporal Badjie. He informed the court that at the Tourism Security Unit, the accused identified himself as Lt. Fatty, commander of Tourism Security Unit.

Still testifying Drammeh told the court that the commander who is the accused told them that he did not want to see any police officer mounting check points from Kotu to Palmarima junction. He further explained that during a rift, the soldier asked Corporal Camara to hand over his gun which he refused, and the soldier then forced him into their vehicle and beat him up.

He said the matter was later reported to Kuto Police Station where he gave his statement.

The case was adjourned to 5th January 2010.
