The long arm of the law has recently axed one Ebrima Faal, a pickpocket, to a mandatory jail term of one-month imprisonment for stealing D400 from someone's pocket while both were boarding a vehicle.

The Brikama Magistrates' Court presided by Pa Harry Jammeh accordingly sentenced Ebrima Faal for violating section 258 of the criminal code. Magistrate Jammeh ruled that it's cruel to ostensibly appear to be boarding a vehicle, and putting one's hand in another person's pocket.

According to the facts stated by the prosecution the incident happened on the 10th of May 2009, at Old Yundum junction while the accused was standing under the pretext of wanting to board a vehicle with some waiting passengers. At that juncture a vehicle arrived and while people rushed to board the vehicle the accused dipped his hand in the pocket of Kebba Ceesay the (complainant) and picked D400 only to be spotted by a looker-on who exposed him when the accused then swiftly dropped the money on the ground.

The accused was then arrested and taken to Yundum Police where he was charged for the said offence.
