Micheal Pedra, a German philanthropist, recently donated D12,000 to the Kwinella Community Nursery School, as well as football kits to the youth of four villages in Kiang Central.
The beneficiary villages of the football kits include Kwinella, Kuronkang, Bambako, Bumarr, and Tabanani village all in the Lower River Region.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony held at the school grounds, Mr Demba Sanyang, chief of Kiang Central, said the donation did not come as a surprise to him.
This is not the first time the donor has helped the community, especially the people of Kwinella.
According to him, the football items would be very useful to the youth, especially during their summer football nawetans.
He urged the students to concentrate on their education to become successful in life.
Chief Sanyang used the opportunity to call on the people in the District to remain united and work together for the development of the area.
He also thanked Micheal Pedra for the donation and promised that the “money will be put into good use”.
For his part, Fabakary Sanneh, headmaster of Kwinella Community Nursery School, stated that the school was established in 1995 and was run by volunteer teachers at the time.
He also thanked the donor for her support to the school once again.
He appealed for a perimeter fence for the school to make it secure and to create more conducive learning and teaching environment for both the teachers and students.
According him, Pedra has been helping the school many a time and promised that he would maintain the relationship.
Jerreh Tomaring Manjang, the VDC chairman, also hailed the donor for the gesture and stressed that the football items would be of a great help to the youth in the area.
Other speakers on the occasion included Ousman Sanyang, deputy Imam of Kwinella, Bakary Sonko and Lamin Darboe, the village sports coordinator in Bambako.
It would be recalled that this same donor last year donated D45,000 and a laptop to the Kwinella Community Nursery School.
