Pencha Bi FC Wednesday won the Late Abdoulie Njie tournament title after beating Nguma FC by 7-6 on penalty shootouts following a goalless draw at regulation time at the Serrekunda Lower Basic School Football field.
The tournament was organised by Mustapha Drammeh, Programme Officer for Serrekunda East Sports Development Organisation, and sponsored by Omar Koroma, Gambian International player and former Portsmouth striker, in memory of Nguma FC's late player Abdoulie Njie, who passed away in June this year during his team's friendly game against Real De Banjul at the Seaview football field.
The late Abdoulie Njie scored the only goal of the game for his side in the 20th minute but collapsed two minutes later and was pronounced dead.
The ten teams that took part in the tournament were each given a token amount of cash for their participation.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the final, Mustapha Drammeh, the organiser of the tournament, said he was excited about the level of participation and the organization of the tournament.
Abdoulie Ann, adviser and team trainer for Pencha Bi FC, said having won the tournament would boost the moral of his players and team during the Serrekunda West Nawetaan as they did last year by emerging as both the knockout and supercup champions.
