The project manager of the President Empowerment of Girl Education Project (PEGEP), Hon. Aba Sanyang, has warned some school head teachers in Region two of West Coast Region to desist from receiving double payments of girl-child school fees from parents.

Hon. Sanyang gave this warning recently during his school project and community outreach sensitisation in Region two of West Coast Region (WCR) Brikama, where PEGEP is sponsoring a lot of female students.

Mr Sanyang thanked the regional director of Region Two, Baboucarr Suwareh, and staff for making the sensitisation in his Region very effective and informative.

He urged sponsored children under the project to make the best use of the sponsorship and to also appreciate the effort President Jammeh is doing for them. “Any girl-child who will continue to do well in her academic career will enjoy President Jammeh’s sponsorship packages up to the university level,” he said. “In this outreach sensitisation we are looking for three things; that is, the welfare of the girl-child under our sponsorship, girl-child list of sponsorship from the school heads, and their academic performance in school.”

Speaking at the ceremony the Director of Region two, Baboucarr Suwareh, said the outreach sensitisation in his Region was very important and crucial, adding that nothing works in education without collaboration and team work. No individual can move education alone without getting support.

“As future leaders of this country you have all the opportunities to learn, having enough teachers, classrooms, resources and being given opportunity for being sponsored by the president without your parents paying your school fees,” Mr Suwareh said. “All you need now is to be serious with your academic work both in school and at home.

For his part, the Governor of West Coast Region (WCR), Alhagie Lamin Sanneh, who has spent eight months as deputy manager of PEGEP, said that one of the most fundamental things on earth is to empower the girl-child through education.

Governor Sanneh said President Jammeh established PEGEP to help girls to complete their education.
