Both sides played defensive and offensive and created some goal-scoring opportunities but the first half failed to produce a goal.
Upon resumption of the game, both sides continued where they left off in the first half and Banjul United came very close to opening the scores through striker Modou Lamin Badjie in the 53rd minute of play but his brilliant free-kick was denied by Hawks net-minder Adama Gassama.
Banjul United also came close to opening the tally through striker Abdoulie Sanneh in the 59th minute of the game but his shot was denied by Hawks’ custodian Adama Gassama.
Omar Sarr could have opened the scores through striker Omar Sarr in the 70th minute of the game when he broke through Banjul United but his shot was denied by United’s Mboge Faye.
Banjul United opened the tally through striker Pa Omar Babou in the 87th minute of play after dribbling past Hawks goalkeeper Adama Gassama to send Banjul fans to jubilation as well as earn them their first-ever FA Cup title.
Hawks fought back for an equalizer but could not break through Banjul United’s solid defence thus the game ended 1-0 in favour of Banjul United.
As champions, Banjul United went home with a giant trophy, medals and a cash prize of D75,000, whilst Hawks received D50,000 as runners-up.
