Alhagie Omar Sey, a prominent national and football official, led the field of awardees at the Sports Journalists Award.
The former GFGA president won the Sports Personality of the Year trophy followed by Bakary Jarjue Leket as Outstanding Athlete of the Year.
Other notable recipients were Abdoulie Bojang of Steve Biko as Coach of the Year, while Gamtel FC was declared d Team of the Year.
Special awards went to all-time football commentator Saul Njie, whose skills in football commentatary remained unrivaled decades after he left that job.
Addressing a large group of attendees from veteran sports people, organizations and government officials, Abdoulie Nget, vice president of the SJAG welcomed the public to the 5th gala and paid tribute to those who made the event possible. He congratulated the awardees for their contribution to the development of sports in the country.
Pap Saine, honorary president of the SJAG, commended the awards committee for a job-well-done and narrated the history of the association and its starling contribution to the development of sports in the country.
Musa Sise, Awards Committee Chairman, thanked all the institutions that graced the occasion with their presence and support.
Ocean Bay Hotel was commended for their “good service and excellent food served”.
