The second edition of the Late Alh Badou Jasseh Nawettan tournament is set to open on Saturday 29 September 2012 in Kerr Mama.

Ma Sosseh of Kerr Mama will face Fass Omar Saho FC in the opener at 4.30pm at the Alh Gabbi Sosseh Mini Stadium in Kerr Mama.

Organised by the Kerr Mama Sports Committee headed by Bai Dodou Jallow in the Upper Nuimi District of the North Bank Region, the tournament will feature eight teams.

Ma Sosseh of Kerr Mama, Kerr Chebou FC, Pakau Njogu FC, Pakau Saloum FC, Fass Omar Saho FC, Kerr Demba FC, Mamuda FC and Bakalarr FC will be participating in the tournament.

The teams are divided into two groups: Group A features: Ma Sosseh of Kerr Mama, Fass Omar Saho, Kerr Chebou FC and Pakau Njogu.

Bakalarr FC, Mamuda FC, Pakau Saloum and Kerr Demba make up Group B.

The package is D10,000 and the trophy is set aside for the winner while D7,000 for 2nd prize holder.

The nawettan is sponsored by Gambia-UK based referee Babucarr Jallow, a native of Kerr Mama, as a sign of remembering the late Jasseh’s mentorship.

The tournament is also  initiated mainly to celebrate the late Badou Jasseh’s football legacy and help to bring into focus his immense contribution to the game in the country and beyond, such as his influential role in supporting and helping Kerr Mama’s duo Baboucarr Jallow and Maudow Jallow, who are international referees thanks to the late Jasseh’s mentorship.

The late Jasseh, who passed away in 2011, contributed a lot to building the capacity of young Gambian referees, some of whom are now CAF and FIFA referees and are representing these two respectable sports bodies in African continental competitions.

Baboucarr, who is one of these products, is using the tournament to remember the late Jasseh’s legacy, who during his school days was an athlete and a cricket player before taking on refereeing as a professional career.

The chief guest of honour for the opening match is Hon. Cherno Omar Jallow, NAM Upper Nuimi and a host of local dignitaries.

As part of the matches on Sunday 30 September, Kerr Chebou will meet Pakau Njogu.

Bakalarr will take on Mauda on Saturday October 4, while the second match of the weekend set for Sunday 5 will see Kerr Demba against Pakau Saloum, all at the Alh Gabbi Sosseh Mini Stadium in Kerr Mama.
