OGIS Crowned Champion in Weekend Wrestling Bout

Augusto Tchouda of Guinea Bissau, was last Sunday crowned as the champion of the weekend wrestling competition organized by the Gambia wrestling Association at the Buffer Zone. Mr Tchouda defeated Burama Sarr of Barra on Saturday while the Sunday bout ended in a nil-nil encounter.

Apart from the main combat, the second major competition was between Bakary Jarju and Alisay which Bakary Jarju won. The third competition was between Youcat Kabba of Guinea Bissau and Alhagie Sanneh, and this competition was won by Kabba of Gunea Bissau.

Speaking in an interview with Pointsports at the Buffer Zone arena, Abdoulie Bojang Vice president of The Gambia Wrestling Association, thanked the general public for the large turn-out during the weekend tournament adding that now his association in collaboration with the wrestling promoters will do everything possible to bring back wrestling to its olden glory.

He pointed out that it was part of the association's plan to tour every region of the country so as to organize regional wrestling competitions in order to scout out best talents.

Mr Bojang assured the public that every weekend wrestling will be organized at the Buffer Zone, and he called on the private sector and individuals to support this traditional sport.
