The Oasis Project Youth Association of Bakau last Sunday donated foodstuff and other valuables to a needy family in Bakau Katchikally.
The donated items, which included a bag of rice, five litre gallons of oil, two washing pans, a bucket, a rake and two brooms worth one thousand five hundred Dalasi (D1500), were handed over to the beneficiaries at a ceremony held in Bakau.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the President of the association, Mr Malang Keita, said the gesture would be a continuous process, geared towards helping the needy and the poor. He called on the beneficiaries to make the best use of the donated items, while thanking them for their co-operation.
He also expressed satisfaction for what he described as members stand in supporting the weak and vulnerable.
Mr. Abdoulie Kanteh, the Public Relation Officer of the association, said "the family is the first, but not the last one to benefit from his association's gesture as they will continue to help the poor and the needy".
Also, speaking at the ceremony, Mr Lamin Saidy, the Treasurer of the association said the donation was aimed at helping families with difficulties, especially their basic needs. According to him, the association's Honorary President, Mr. Christ Hayter is the brainchild of the initiative.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Mama Sarr commended the donors for the benevolence .She described the assistance as timely and welcoming, while wishing the association success in all their endeavours.
