The National Youth Services Scheme on Friday 25th June 2010, received materials from Egalise Association in Bellac (France), through the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Momodou Tangara, at a ceremony held at the NYSS Youth Camp in Bakau.
The donated items included 5.5 KV generator, two sewing machines and four cupboards.
Speaking on behalf of the donors, Dr. Tangara paid tribute to the late Mr. Njie of NYSS. He noted that the relationship between Eglise and NYSS have been existing for several years, which he said, the late Njie had been instrumental.
Dr. Tangara challenged the beneficiaries to utilise the materials to be a gateway for another gift.
Also, speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of Youth and Sports Honourable Sheriff Gomez described the gesture as significant to the NYSS.
According to him, the government has been the principal sponsor of NYSS since 1996. Notwithstanding, he said they have been facing a mounting challenge.
He expressed delight at the Egalise Association and commended Dr. Tangara for facilitating the gesture.
Speaking on behalf of NYSS, the Executive Director, Musa Nbai, expressed similar sentiments and then elaborated on their relationship with Egalise.
According him, prior to this gesture the donors have one time donated a pumping machine to Niani Berr Farm. He also expressed gratitude to the donors for supporting young people. NYSS boss reassured that the materials would be put to good use.
