Four ex-corps members of the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS) are taking part in the 4th ECOWAS Youth Forum and Exhibition of Products made by Young Entrepreneurs in Lome, Togo, from 8 to 10 December 2010.
A news release issued by the NYSS revealed that Kawsu Badjie, Fatou Marong, Sona Sambou and Yankuba S.M. Sanneh, all ex-corps members of the NYSS, are representing The Gambia in the event.
"These young people have attended the ECOWAS Training in Mali and Benin on Home and Industrial Electricity and Agric Business respectively," says the dispatch.
The forum is being attended by young people from the different Ecowas member states.
The central topic of the 4th Youth Form is "Youths Entrepreneurship, Sharing of Experiences and Capitalization of Good Practices."
While seeing them off, Ms Aji Fatou Nian, personnel officer, warned them to remain disciplined and ensure they fly the Gambian flag high, "as you are ambassadors representing The Gambia".
Ms Nian concluded: "Your compatriots have already registered an indelible achievement with regard to this particular Forum and Exhibition. It's therefore, incumbent on you to ensure that you maintain the standards already set. As such the expectations are high and you must endeavour to march them."
Kawsu Badjie, who spoke on behalf of the team, commended the NYSS for its strides in the development of the human resource base of The Gambia.
"Honestly, the NYSS has changed the lives of many of us," Kawsu remarked. "It is as a result of the training we received at the NYSS that most of us are capable of being self-employed and doing very well."
They also promised to strive harder, upon their return, to serve the nation by putting the knowledge gained from the event into practice.
