The National Youth Council (NYC), with support from the Plymouth Banjul Challenge on Thursday June 17th 2010 donated materials to the Bansang Youth Centre, at a ceremony held at the National Youth Council headquarters at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

The donated items included a Generator, DVD players and satellite receivers.

Speaking to this reporter, the Co-ordinator of the Plymouth Banjul Challenge, Modou Ndimbalan said that the gesture follows a request from Bansang youths through the National Youth Council to help them have access to watching football games. He stated that the Plymouth Banjul Challenge has been supporting the National Youth Council for a while now, adding that they have also renovated a basketball lawn, tennis lawn, provide a satellite dish and a plasma TV to the Bansang Youth Centre prior to this donation.

He further asserted that they also provided a multi-purpose centre for the youths of Bansang to acquire skills for themselves. However, he challenged the beneficiaries to make use of the items in order to serve them for its intended purpose.

For his part, Mr. Marchel Mendy, the Executive Secretary of the National Youth Council alluded that they have a longstanding relationship with the Plymouth Banjul Challenge, saying that this was not the first time they are supporting the NYC. He said that the materials donated would go a long way in improving the life of young people by acquiring skills and improving the level of their competency.

"Supporting NYC means a help to the young people, therefore the need to provide a better future for them is essential," he said.

Mendy used the opportunity to challenge other stakeholders, such as banks, GSM operators and individuals to render more support to the National Youth Council since it's the umbrella organisation of all youth groups in the country. He finally reassured them that the donated items would be put to proper usage.

For his part, Sulayman Sowe, the Financial Assistant at the National Youth Council also acknowledged Plymouth Banjul Challenge’s support to the NYC.

He applauded the donors for their continuous support.
