The National Union of Gambian Students (NUGS) which was originally formed by six tertiary institutions has now increased its membership to eight. Two new student unions, namely Banatu Business College, Lamin and the Stratford College of Management were the latest to join the group at a recent ceremony in the grounds of The Gambia College in Brikama. The six original members were UTG, MDA, GTTI, Gambia College, Hotel School and IBC. It will be recalled that the new entrants applied for their membership after the National Congress on 2nd March 2008 where they were invited as guests.
Informally accepting the new entrants, Mr. Ebrima Sanneh, President of the NUGS, described the occasion as a great triumph for their efforts and a land mark achievement during his tenure at office.
Mr. Sanneh affirmed that their goal has always been to expand and strengthen the NUGS to make it a real national union.
Banutu Business College's Barry Saidy applauded the executive council of the NUGS for their hard work and dedication. He also commended them for reducing some of the constraints affecting Gambian students. "The new members were presented with the NUGS Constitution and allocated with portfolios in the expanded NUGS executive"
The ceremony was attended by the NUGS executive members and some of the students.
