The Gambia Golf Association (GGA) has been successful in its registration, and is now recognised as a national sports association by the National Sports Council (NSC).
In a confirmation letter dated 7 January 2016, sent to GGA and seen by this paper, the NSC advised the association to work on strengthening its programmes within one year or have its registration revoked.
Below, we reproduce the letter from NSC, signed by Ebrima Secka on behalf of NSC executive director, addressed to the secretary general of the GGA. The letter reads:
“Following your application for registration at the National Sports Council, I write to inform you that you have been successful. Thus, you are now a recognise National Sports Association.
However, you are advised on the following within one year of receipt of this letter failure of which your registration status will be revoked:
1. Work with Secondary School Sports Association to promote Golf clinics;
2. Training programmes for technicians, kadis, administrators
3. Organise National Championship
4. Sensitisation of golf games for wider coverage
While congratulating you on your success, we count on your cooperation.”
