The 15th Edition of the Njawara Marathon Maternity Run for the health post will kick-off this Saturday in Njawara.
According to Ousainou Panneh, the Secretary-General of the marathon committee this year's event will attract athletes from the Greater Banjul Area, Njawara and its satellite villages.
He stated that the main objective of the run is to raise funds to refurbish the maternity ward of the village health post.
Panneh pointed out that over 35,000 people visit the health post, adding that the committee has through the race provided assistance to the Njawara Lower Basic School by sponsoring some children and also supporting some of the development projects in the village.
He called on individuals, the public and private sector to support their initiatives in order to save women lives from maternal death.
Panneh pointed that this year's event will include 10km male race, starting from Kerewan to Njawara, while the 5km female race will commence from Daru- Salam to Njawara and the 3km children race will kick-off from Turo-Ba to Njawara.
The event would be graced by government officials, sports fans and community leaders.
