Nigeria and Sierra Leone have both qualified from group A for the semi-final of the Nigeria High Commission's Golden Jubilee Tournament.
Nigeria made it to the semi-final after collecting maximum six points in two games. They defeated Sierra Leone by 3-0 in their opening game of the competition and also beat Senegal 2-1 on Wednesday 22 September 2010 at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium to finish top of group A.
Chidi Nwani scored both goals for Nigeria in the 7th and 67th minutes but was sent off in the 69th minute of the game for a second bookable offence.
Abdoulaye Badji scored Senegal’s goal in the 30th minute from a superb free kick. Senegal were also reduced to ten men in the 64th minute when Ali Diop was sent off after been shown a direct red card for unsporting behaviour.
Sierra Leone, who collected three points, also advanced to the semi-final following their 3-0 victory over Senegal who finished bottom of the group with a point in two games.
Meanwhile, the Sports Journalist Association of The Gambia will lock horns with Mauritania in the final group B game at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda this morning.
Mauritania are currently top of group B with three points and fifteen goals, following their 15-0 win over Libya on Tuesday, 21 September 2010 at the Manjai Kunda sports complex.
The Sports Journalist Association of The Gambia are currently occupying second position with three points and two goals while Libya are bottom of the group without a point.
