The Niani Nawettan Tournament, organised by the Niani Sports Committee for surrounding villages in the Central River Region, is currently at the second round stage.
Kuntaur, Kayai, Fulla Kunda, Barrajally, Sukuta, Jakaba, Toubakuta, Toubakoto and Wassu are the teams vying for the championship solely sponsored by Amadou Jallow, a native of Kuntaur Fulla Kunda.
According to Arfang Sisawo, chairman of the Sports Committee, the tournament is designed purposely to upgrade the standard of football in the area. He said it also seeks to cement everlasting friendship and co-operation between participating teams.
Sisawo commended the sponsor of the tournament Amadou Jallow for putting forward D5000 geared towards the success of the tournament.
Meanwhile, in the second round matches, Barrajally drew with Toubakuta 2-2, while Fulla Kunda and Sukuta played out a 1-1 draw at the Fullakunda football field.
Kuntaur defeated Barrajally 1-0, Toubakuta and Fullakunda drew 1-1.
According to the records of the tournament, Fulla Kunda striker Demba Sanyang is currently the leading goal scorer of the tournament and was voted the man of the week.
