The National Assembly Member for Niani Constituency, Demba BT Sambou recently handed over 18 cartoons of second hand clothing and 20 bags of rice to over 109 fire victims of Sinchu Jatali and Paloli Wolof.
The items were presented at a ceremony held at the respective villages in the Central River Region (CRR).
NAM Sambou, who presented the donated items, thanked the Gambia Red Cross Society and Future In Our Hands for their support, saying that the donors have indeed bailed the victims who have lost all their valuable items during the inferno of the February 2nd and 3rd 2013.
Sambou further appealed to other institutions to emulate the two donors, noting that they have manifested to the victims that they really care for them during their difficult moments.
“I am very much delighted with the two donors for their humanitarian aid to the people of my constituency and as their representative I will always work for the development and concern of the people of Niani,” he said.
He lauded Future In Our Hand for the gesture since they took upon themselves to transport 20 bags of rice to the two communities, as well as GAMCEL and Jah Oil Company for providing fuel and vehicle.
The Chief of Niani District, Alhagie Pierre Bah commended NAM Sambou for his foresight, saying this is what is expected from a representative. He also thanked the donors for their support, assuring them that the donated items would go a long way towards uplifting the status of the victims, while calling on the residents to be very careful of fire outbreaks, as well as clean-up their environments.
“This is no politics, but a nation-building which everyone needs to play his/her role as a citizen,” he noted.
Chief Bah also reminded the villagers to continue rallying behind the APRC party.
Buba Fabureh, who represented Future In Our Hand (FIOH) disclosed that the donation emanated from NAM Sambou, who wrote to seek sponsorship for the fire victims.
He noted that the Director of FIOH, who wasted no time had ordered for the rice to be bought with immediate effect at the tune of D25, 000.
He recalled that the victims are in need since they lost all their valuables to the inferno, emphasising that the government cannot do it alone.
Alkalo Samba Njie of Sinchu Jatali, who received the donated items, commended NAM Sambou for his efforts, noting that he knows that as a representative he will never forget the people who voted him into office.
The Disaster Coordinator, CRR Bubacarr Fofana, Pa Musa Kejera Regional Red Cross Coordinator, Alkalo Jawando Bah of Sare Niaga, Hamidou Jaiteh of Jakaba, Amoro Jarju Public Health Officer Kuntaur Health Center, all thanked the NAM for his concern, calling on the people to join hands in the crusade against fire outbreaks.
