The Village Development Committee of Gunjur on Tuesday 19th February 2013 held a general meeting at the village market.
The meeting was meant to highlight the achievements and weakness of the Village Development Committee, and to strengthen their weaknesses.
Speaking at the meeting, the Alkalo of Gunjur, Alhagie Sulayman Touray, called for unity and understanding among the youths of the village.
He said VDC is a volunteer organisation where youth tasked themselves to contribute their quota to the development of the village.
Alkalo Touray commended the new VDC for their contribution towards the development of the village.
He expressed his willingness to working closely with the new VDC in order to bring more development to the village.
The Chairman of Gunjur Village Development Committee, Demba Jobe Touray, said according to the Local Government Act each village should have a VDC.
Jobe Touray stated that it was difficult for the new VDC to receive the documents from the previous VDC.
Jobe Touray further stated that the new VDC has built a market, sponsored by the Marlborough Brandt Group and the government.
The Secretary-General of Gunjur VDC, Modou Janneh, said ‘many people in the village want to join the VDC, but due to the behaviour of some people in the village they decided to stay away.”
For his part, Sannaba Darboe, said the new VDC has generated over D33, 000 from the beach since they took over office months ago.
Darboe has described Gunjur link committee as a family link, noting that the link belongs to the whole village.
