Honourable
Kebba Gaye, the newly elected National Assembly Member for Jokadu constituency,
has appealed to government, philanthropists and NGO's to help the people of his
constituency. 49 houses and compounds in the are were gutted by fire early last
month with the owners of the homes losing all their possessions in the blazes.
Their losses, including foodstuffs, cash and other equipment, are said to run
into thousands of Dalasi's.
According
to Hon. Gaye, the fire destroyed 49 houses in ChesimaVillage in the North Bank Region. He made
his statements in an interview with The
Point. He said the situation is very serious at the moment. "Let the people
come and assist the victims so that they can come and rebuild their lives and
their homes," he said. According to Hon. Gaye, the cause of the fire cannot be
determined at this time although many people are speculating as to what the
possible causes might have been. He stated that soon after starting the fire
engulfed the entire compound and burned it to ashes. He then reiterated his
appeal for support for the victims from well wishers.
For his
part, the Alkalo of the village expressed similar sentiments. He also solicited
help from people so that the victims of the fire can try and rebuild their
lives following the disaster. He finally commended those neighbours of the
victims who were giving them accommodation while their houses are being
reconstructed.
