New Castle FC were Sunday crowned champions of the 2010 Pirang Nawetaan League Championship after thrashing Ajax FC 2-0 in a final played at the Pirang playground.
The game, characterised by exhibition of skills and panache, attracted multitude of spectators from Pirang and its environs.
Castle FC opened the scoring in the 61st minute of the game through substitute Armed Forces striker Kabba Jobe from a brilliant strike, while Buba Touray doubled New Castle FC’s lead in the 70th minute of the game after slashing through Ajax FC’s defence line to seal a victory for
Ajax FC fought back for an equaliser and created few goal-scoring opportunities but fail to capitalise on them, thus the game ended 2-0 in favour of New Castle FC.
While the champions, New Castle FC, were crowned with a trophy and a cash prize of D6,000, Ajax FC received D4,000 as runners up.
