About ten thousand young people from different regions of the country at the weekend took part in a weeding exercise in President Jammeh’s Kanilai farm.

At the end of the exercise, the president commended the volunteers for their efforts and also hailed them for what he called their massive participation and the love they have for the country.

As a show of appreciation the President promised that he would take two youths from each region to Mecca to perform Hajj.

Said President Jammeh: “l live for you the youths and for Africa and I will live for you forever.”

According to President Jammeh, anything he does in the country “is based on the interest of the Gambian people because as he put it he lives for them, and anything good for the country, he puts his soul on it.

“I work for the Gambian people and I will do whatever you ask me because I live for you,’’ he said.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Alieu K. Jammeh, in his remarks, said: “I really thank God for making this possible and thank all the governors, chiefs and all those who participated in making the work possible”.

According to him, the farming exercise converged youths from various sectors such as youth institutions, the civil service, green youths and those from the University among others.

Alieu K. Jammeh said: “This is the beginning to me for bringing all young people from across the nation under one umbrella to join the head of state in the national development through agriculture among others.”

He revealed that no country in this world can develop without agriculture, while commending the youths for their commitment and solidarity with the President.
