The regional agricultural director for North Bank Region has lauded the efforts of Concern Universal, an International NGO, for partnering with Reliance Financial Services in providing financial services to farmers to increase production.
Dr Saikou E. Sanyang was speaking recently in Kerewan at a sensitization meeting with Kerewan vegetable growers on the importance of linking producers to financial institutions.
He said sensitization on credit and savings to Reliance Financial Services would help farmers to increase production in all related agricultural products.
Dr Sanyang noted that the credit loan at Reliance Financial Services was earmarked to enhance food production hence calls on farmers to fully utilize the opportunity.
In another development, the regional office held a meeting with frontline extension workers and staff to map out strategies of complementing the President’s call for food self-sufficiency by 2016.
Dr Sanyang noted the critical roles frontline extension workers play in the transfer of skills and knowledge to farmers to enhance production and productivity.
He said the adoption of best agricultural practices by farmers would optimize the crop environment for realization of yield potential.
Dr Sanyang praised President Yahya Jammeh for attaching great importance to food security and sustainable development.
The NBR regional agricultural director also calls on frontline extension workers, partners and stakeholders to promote networking and information sharing to increase production and contribute to poverty reduction.
