Research Council (MRC) Gambia has held its 63rd Gambia Government annual joint
meeting clinical services seminar at its Fajara office.
The
annual forum aimed at bringing government officials, particularly those from
the health sector and the MRCG staff to discuss the success stories that MRCG
has registered over the years and its challenges and carved the way forward.
Speaking
at the meeting, Jame Gomez, Director of research and planning at the Ministry
of Higher Education, Research Science and Technology said MOHERST is deeply
impressed with health researcher’s regular sharing of information with the
Gambian people.
According
to him, the stakeholders from different parts of the Gambia are gathered for a
common goal of fostering partnership for common development and promotion of
research for effective policy decision making. He said by implication, this
means, setting up vibrant research and knowledge sharing mechanism that would
be underscored by the National
Research policy document that is
currently being developed.
He cited that research education is the
foundation for national development in the long run, saying research is
fundamental to innovation, knowledge production, and the international
competitiveness of nations. “On behalf of the Minister, I would like to pledge
MOHERST continued support for all programs related to research in the country.”
According
to the National Research policy, a committee has been formed in which MRCG is a
member. Recently, the policy road map and its budget was finalized, and the
writing process will soon begin and the National Research Act drafting exercise
will also be carried out simultaneously.
