MoYS National Consultative Forum set for tomorrow

The Ministry of Youth and Sports National Consultative Forum is slated for tomorrow, Saturday 9 August 2014, at the Friendship Hotel, Independence Stadium, Bakau.

The National Consultative forum is organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports meant to develop a five-year football development strategy.

During the forum the following issues will be discussed: restructuring of the national league with the options of fusing the Super Nawettan with the current league structure, and abolishing the current league structure and replacing it with Super Nawettan.

The national consultative forum will also discuss the creation of Superior or Premier League, funding mechanism for football development in the country, school, community and grassroots football, the development of technicians such as coaches, referees, administrators, and revisit modalities for the ownership of football clubs in The Gambia.

All of the above if achieved will give the national teams opportunity to fully prepare and participate in national engagements such as the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio in Brazil, 2017 African Nations Cup to be hosted in Libya and 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports is inviting all football stakeholders and individuals in the country to kindly attend the national consultative forum and come up with suggestions, contributions and progressive ideas on the abovementioned elements to achieve excellence in sport.

According to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, from 1999 to 2009, they have observed with appreciation the financial commitment of the government, the private sector, and ordinary Gambians, especially as regards financial, moral support, and guidance of His Excellency the President of the Republic of The Gambia, for the development of football in the country.
