Momodou Sabally launches two books

Momodou Sabally, a Gambian author, recently launched two books at a ceremony held at the Paradise Suites Hotel.

The books entitled: “For the Gambia Living the National Anthem” and “To the Gambia the Smiling Coast” were sponsored by President Yahya Jammeh.

In his statement at the launch, Sabally said, his books highlight some personalities like Muhammed Jah and others, who have created job opportunities for the youths.

He said he has seen what education did for him, and that is why he advises the youths to not wait for people to come and do it for them, but to do it for themselves.

He said he was happy about the book launch, which he noted, might be the last he would do on the Gambian soil.

He said he is doing this for The Gambia as the country makes him who he is today and urged everyone to appreciate the country and then thanked the President for sponsoring the publication.

In his launch statement, on behalf of the President, Dr. Njogu Bah, the Minister of Presidential Affairs, said in the works of academics, the compilation of words and thoughts into its original form is not an easy task.

He said Mr. Sabally’s books are appreciated not only in its context, but the manner in which they are published.

He described Momodou Sabally as a Gambian who is proud of his culture and heritage, saying he is not part of those who criticizes the President’s university project, but took the opportunity to learn.

He further stated that Sabally’s works are inspiring to all, especially the youths as this is his own way of giving back to people. He said Sabally in his book encourages its citizens to take up the inspiring words in the national anthem.

He said the second book depicts the hospitality of the country and the achievements of some of its citizens, both in The Gambia and abroad, using Mandinka and Wollof proverbs, reflecting the author’s philosophy of truth and positive thinking of the Gambian people.

In her book review, Jaye Sarr, the author’s wife, said the book entitled ‘To the Gambia the Smiling Coast’ is a collection of poems, meant to inspire the nation and having gone through the book, it is dedicated to the Gambian women.”

For his part, Vicente Gomez, who reviewed the book ‘For the Gambia Living the National Anthem’ said “he who loves what he does, does it with passion.”

He said the book is a 66 page masterpiece that teaches patriotism and brotherhood.
